GENERAL MOSAIC ART PIECES
LOUIS ARMSTRONG
Every year in my home town of Wangaratta, North East Victoria, Australia, we hold Australia's largest Jazz Festival.
I had been doing mosaic work for 6 months when my teacher suggested I create something for the Jazz Festival. Automatically I thought of Louis Armstrong. What hails Jazz more clearly than the picture in our minds of the ever present and inviting smile, the eyes that shone brightly and the voice ... that amazing voice that held you captive.
For me, Louis Armstrong singing 'What a Wonderful World' will forever in my mind be HIS song. The empathy, love and feeling as he sings touches my heart deeply.
This piece was such a delight to do. I have a love of doing things small, and for his face, hands and the trumpet, I did my best to show movement and variation as if the light was dancing as he played.
It took me almost 120 hours to do and 3 hours to grout. It measures 680mm x 400mm. Made with ceramic wall and floor tiles to capture various depths and movement.

I loved doing this as I used very fine (1mm wide x 2mm) pieces. The frame is deep set and I wanted the feeling of the piece to be a neon signs in a club. The background l wanted to be like a brick wall.
The 'Standout' measures 510mm x 140mm (FRAMED 540mm x 170mm). This piece took 20 hours to make. Made from Ceramic Tiles.

DAY & NIGHT
I have a love for the Sun and the Moon. I wanted to make a piece for outside that reflected both Day and Night. Using glass bubble to represent stars for the Night and mirror to represent Sun Rays.
This was made using an outside paving tile so that this art piece would not deteriorate outside. I used black silocone as this is weather resistant.
